Making Crypto Easy

FIO Protocol

The FIO Protocol improves the usability of crypto products. I joined the team to develop their brand and build an interactive prototype to show off their technology to potential partners.

Meet the Client

What does improving the usability of crypto products actually mean? FIO Crypto Handles are a single identifier that eliminates the need to see, or even know about, blockchain public addresses. It’s simple to register, easy to use, and works with every token/coin automatically.

Understanding their Goals

Building More than a Prototype

From the start FIO wanted to build a prototype to win potential clients. They had an innovative protocol, but it was hard to sell partners on code alone so they wanted something physical to show. As the project progressed I was brought on to help them establish branding along with the prototype.

Establishing a Plan

Talking with Stakeholders

To kick off this project I started by conducting interviews with FIO’s stakeholders to discover what they were looking for. My goal was to understand what they needed from me and how I could provide the best solution. I had a list of must have features for this prototype written out and created a rough affinity map based off of them. From there I organized this data into an information architecture map to give me a blueprint of what I needed to build.

Wireframing the Prototype

Once a clear idea of what main screens were needed I created lo-fidelity wireframes to show stakeholders. During these discussions I was given the green light to move forward with a hi-fidelity prototype.

Making Crypto Handles Easy

Registering a Handle with FIO Protocol

FIO Protocol makes sending and receiving crypto easy because it eliminates difficult Crypto handles. Existing handles are long and often complicated addresses. FIO removes the hard to remember handles and replaces them with user created ones. It was essential to show potential integrators that using FIO made making a handle as easy as setting up an email address.

Brand Guidelines

Establishing a Design System

It was important to me to establish a design system that could grow with FIO as it expanded. I created reusable components for FIO to make future scaling simple.

Sending Crypto

Crypto Transactions

Requesting Crypto

Each stakeholder had a list of things they wanted, but the main goal was to create something interactive that showed potential partners how easy it was to send crypto or request crypto with FIO enabled applications.

The Results

Business Impact

The use of my prototype has helped the FIO protocol build an extensive ecosystem. So far it has been integrated with over 30 wallets, exchanges, payment processors, marketplaces, and protocols
